What we noticed after a while was that the pet items kept selling and everything else did not. Leashes went out the door. Bowls, beds, travel gear, the small things people buy because their dog or their cat needs them and not because they are looking for a bargain. So at some point we stopped pretending we were a general store and started building Foxujm around the one category we clearly had a feel for.

 

Neither of us came into this from retail. We both had animals growing up and we both spent years buying the wrong things for them. Collars that looked good in a photo and fell apart in a month. A cat fountain so loud we ended up unplugging it at night. A leash that turned stiff and rough after one rainy winter. Nobody warns you about any of this. You find out after you have already paid.

 

That is the filter we use now. Before something goes on the site, one of us has to be able to say why it is worth owning and what it is like after a few months of proper use. If the honest answer is that it is fine and nothing more, we leave it. We would rather carry fewer products and be able to stand behind all of them than fill the site up and hope for the best.

 

We are still small. There are no employees behind Foxujm, just the two of us handling the orders, the emails and the packing. It means we are slower than a large retailer on some things and quicker on others, because when you send a message it is one of us reading it, not a support department three countries away.
